OBJECTIVES:

The main objective of the project is to efficient recovery of marine waste (environmental and food sources) by extracting chitin/chitosan and using their combination in some specific applications. In order to achieve this objective, the following specific objectives are envisaged:

• Optimization the chitin and chitosan extraction from marine waste and from eggs capsules of R. venosa.
• Establishing the optimum ratio/conditions of chitosan (CHs): chitin (CHT): oligomers in order to obtain the best cellular responses (membrane interactions, stimulation or inhibition of protein activities, cellular cycle regulations) with applications in fundamental biology, aquaculture, human health, and biotechnology.
• Establishing an optimal formula based on chitosan for inhibiting cells development (cell human line cultures) and microorganisms for extended applications.
